The Lamb's Retreat Recording Project

In 2004 John D. Lamb asked me to transfer some DATs of the 2004 Staff Concert and (the weekend culminating) Sunday "Playing of the Assignments"[1] to CDs. This grew into an ambitious plan (some would say overly so) to document the entire weekend experience (2 times over), which we did in 2006 and 2007.

NOVEMBER 5, 2008 UPDATE This accounting of the Lamb's Retreat Recording Project is underdevelopment. Originally created for an email, it's being re-written as a bit of, hopefully on going, history. Visit in a few days and see how it reads then....

One of the primary reasons for making recordings at Lamb’s Retreat is to extend Springfed Arts educational mission.

Recordings make it possible to go back and analyse your personal performance and see your musical growth. They also are memory banks for collective experience, information and inspiration. The way Springfed Arts can offer  access to it’s archive is though CD purchases[2] of available recordings, which include:

  • workshops [3]Recorder Logo
  • collective staff presentations
  • the Saturday Staff Concert, and
  • the Sunday "Playing of the Assignments"

We also wanted to offer a personalized "Game Tape” such as those made by sports teams to evaluate performance. Our “Game Tape” is a single CD collection of a retreater's performances at Open Mics PLUS the recording their Sunday Assignment song (as not everyone wants to purchase a full CD-set of the Sunday Assignments just to hear their song again).

The "Game Tape" proved to be the most time consuming to produce and catalog. Especially because a "One-Time-Special-Collection-of-ALL-Your-Recorded- Performances-from-2004-2007" was ambitiously offered..... For that reason we've decided to offer it ONLY THOUGH November 30, 2008.

If you have any pictures or tales from the retreat you wish to offer for our rotating gallery please email joscar A-T retreatrecordings.com.

NOTES:
[1] "The Playing of the Assignments" that invigorating and terrifying moment of revealing your new song that is somewhat analogous to "the running of the bulls" in Pamplona, Spain
[2] The modest administrative fee ($20-$40 depending on the number of discs) helps to pay for the collection, cataloging, mastering, transfer and preservation of the audio archive (60%), with the remaining 40% used to endow Springfed Arts with operational funds (to keep the Retreats happening).
[3] Workshops are only available for 2006 and 2007
